FUE vs. LSE (Linear Method)
Follicular Unit Extraction
Follicular Unit Extraction is a procedure designed to provide the best combination: hair restoration and virtually undetectable scars. Hair restoration surgery like this allows us to slow down the natural process of hair loss, and help return you to a more youthful version of yourself with thicker, fuller hair.
Linear Strip Excision
Linear Strip Excision (LSE , formerly known as the strip method), is a method of surgical hair restoration/transplantation. With this technique, a small strip of skin (with intact hair follicles) is removed from the back of the head (donor site) and the individual follicular units are dissected under a microscope and prepared for transplantation to the recipient site. The donor area is then closed and sutured back together.
Top 5 Differences Between FUE and LSE
- 1
Method of Extracting Hair Follicles
FUE involves extracting individual hair follicles one-by-one from the donor area, while LSE involves removing a strip of skin containing hair follicles from the donor area.
- 2
Scarring
FUE typically results in small, circular scars in the donor area that are difficult to detect, while LSE can result in a linear scar that may be more noticeable.
- 3
Healing Time
FUE has a shorter healing time as there are no stitches or incisions, while LSE may require a longer healing time due to the need for sutures and the larger incision.
- 4
Hair Transplant Density
LSE can achieve a higher hair transplant density as more follicles can be extracted from the strip of skin, while FUE may be limited by the number of follicles that can be extracted individually.
- 5
Hair Length
FUE can be performed on shorter hair, while LSE may require longer hair to cover the scar.

Follicular Unit Transplantation
Follicular Unit Transplantation (FUT , formerly known as the strip method), is a method of surgical hair restoration/transplantation. With this technique, a small strip of skin (with intact hair follicles) is removed from the back of the head (donor site) and the individual follicular units are dissected under a microscope and prepared for transplantation to the recipient site.
